Nitro Circus Live’s Travis Pastrana, Josh Sheehan and Gregg Duffy Make Action Sports History With Huge FMX World Firsts

PrintPastrana Stomps Superman Double Backflip, Sheehan Pulls Heel Clicker Double Backflip and Duffy Lands Double Frontflip All in One Record-Breaking Night!

May 16, 2016 08:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Nitro Circus Live tore up the history books Saturday, May 14 in Brisbane, Australia with a spectacular show that took freestyle motocross (FMX) to the next level. The legendary Travis Pastrana, champion rider Josh Sheehan and motocross racer Gregg Duffyall landed massive world firsts that redefined what is possible in the discipline. Click here for footage of these barrier-breaking feats.

“I haven’t felt that type of energy in a crowd since X Games 2006 [when Travis landed world’s first double and won the gold, shocking the world]. That was without a doubt, one of the biggest nights in action sports history.”

The great Travis Pastrana led from the front on this historic night. He was first to hit the new, double sized takeoff ramp and attempted the world’s first Superman double backflip.

On his first attempt, Pastrana got the trick around on two wheels, but failed to ride out. Despite getting battered and bruised by that attempt, he went straight backstage and, without a moment’s hesitation, hurled himself back at the steepest freestyle ramp ever built and sent the crowd into a complete fever by perfectly landing and riding out of the world’s biggest new freestyle trick, a double backflip Superman.

Pastrana’s heroics were enough to convince Josh Sheehan, already the first rider on the planet to land a motorcycle triple backflip and the only man in the world currently performing the double backflip, to take the double to an entirely new, previously unthinkable level: adding a heel click while in the middle of the first of his two rotations. The packed house leaped to their feet and went absolutely ballistic after Sheehan came back down to earth.

Gregg Duffy’s landmark double frontflip is quite simply the biggest trick in FMX. It also is arguably the most dangerous, as fellow Nitro Circus teammate Bruce Cook knows first-hand. (Cook crashed on his 2014 attempt, fracturing his vertebrae, and became a paraplegic). Duffy, a longtime friend of Travis, trained for weeks at his Maryland, USA Pastranaland complex preparing for an opportunity to make history. When the moment came, Duffy stepped up in epic fashion, stomping the double front with almost perfect execution and riding away. Duffy was then absolutely mobbed by his fellow athletes and, in an incredibly touching moment, Duffy rode over to Bruce Cook where the two shared an extremely emotional and tearful embrace.

Afterwards Pastrana, the world’s greatest extreme sports athlete, said unequivocally, “I haven’t felt that type of energy in a crowd since X Games 2006 [when Travis landed world’s first double and won the gold, shocking the world]. That was without a doubt, one of the biggest nights in action sports history.”

Tour veterans consider Saturday night, Nitro Circus Live’s 205th performance, the greatest show in the global phenomenon’s 6-year history. Nitro Circus CEO and Creative Director Mike Porra went even further, saying, “We’ve just seen the biggest night in the last decade of action sports, if not ever. This has been three years in the making for Travis and it shows the guys’ unwavering courage and commitment to progression.”

Even though 2016 is just now approaching the halfway point, it is already Nitro Circus Live’s biggest year yet. For the first time ever, the Nitro crew is touring multiple territories simultaneously. A month into an extensive North American trek, with over 40 dates in first-time markets across the United States and Canada, Nitro Circus Live also recently kicked off its 10th Anniversary tour in Australia, celebrating the Aussie release of the hit DVD series that started it all. Tours of UK, Ireland and France will follow in June and July.

About Mark McMorris

With immense talent and a healthy dose of charisma, Canadian Mark McMorris is one of snowboarding’s leading men. The Saskatchewan native has staked his claim in the sport, possessing 12 X Games medals under his belt along with 2 US Open wins, Dew Tour wins and many other accolades to date. In 2012, Mark became only the second person to ever win double gold at the Winter X Games (Big Air and Slopestyle); it was also that year that Mark took home the Transworld Rider’s Poll Rookie of the Year award. As one of Canada’s top Winter Olympic hopefuls, all eyes were on McMorris in Sochi, 2014. After winning silver at the Winter X Games despite suffering a broken rib in Slopestyle finals only ten days prior, Mark shocked the world and walked away with the bronze medal in Slopestyle and continues to push his limits to grab gold. Mark has shown nothing short of greatness in 2016, taking wins at Dew Tour, Laax Open, and X Games, as well as Rider of the Year awards from both Transworld Snowboarding and Snowboarder Magazines. 2016 BMX HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES ANNOUNCED

April 21, 2016

Screen_shot_2016-04-15_at_4

It’s slated to be one of the biggest days for BMX in 2016: On Saturday night, June 11th in Chula Vista, Ca., the National Hall of Fame will induct six new legends of the sport into the famed hall.  All of this will take place just hours after the U.S. BMX Olympic Trials where the second U.S. Athlete to represent the United States will be decided!

Please join us in welcoming the following six inductees in to the BMX HoF Class of 2016:

PIONEER RACER: LEE MEDLIN

Known to the BMX world as Pedalin’ Lee Medlin, this year’s Pioneer inductee began his BMX quest at the world famous Corona Raceway downhill track and quickly became one of the riders to beat in his class. From the age of 13 to 18, Medlin was a Nationally-ranked Top-3 Am in the NBA and multi-time Grands Champion. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment was doubling at the Jag BMX World Championships in 1981 – winning both 16x and the 14 over Trophy Dash. When he turned Pro in 1983 – now riding for Kuwahara, Lee would be considered a contender for “Rookie Pro of the Year.” As one of the original members of the GT Factory team, “Pedalin’ Medlin” inspired many a BMX racer and motivated his competition to up the their game.

In mid-80’s BMX, you either stepped up to Lee’s level – or got left behind.

RACER: TERRY TENETTE

With a “thumbs-up” pose every time a camera was pointed his direction, Terry Tenette became well known for his trademark styles and moves. Known by all as “Mr. T,” the San Jose native brought a full-pull wheelie-the-entire-track riding style to racing. In fact, he might even be credited for inventing the term “pull.”

Another Tenette trademark was running an extremely long 40-inch axle-to-axle wheelbase, to match his racing style. From running big gears with a sprocket protector, to wearing a weight belt, along with bringing back the long lost Nor.Cal. pride to 80’s and 90’s BMX, Terry was one of the most colorful characters in the sport.

After turning Pro in 1987, Mr. T went on to win three consecutive NBL National No.1 Pro titles (1990, 1991, 1992- the only Pro to ever do so in the NBL), and followed it up with a 1993 National No.1 Pro Cruiser Championship in ABA. Retiring from pro competition after 10 years, Terry had tallied up 90 AA-pro mains – scoring 11 wins out of his 25 podiums. But it would not be the last time the cycling world would hear his name – as Mr.T would go on to race track bikes in velodromes and compete in cyclo-cross events; as well as racing downhill and slalom mountain bikes, having World Cup results in all events.
There is no question that Terry Tenette is one impressive, well-rounded cyclist!

INDUSTRY: JIM ALLEY

As a big fan of anything that goes fast, Jim Alley founded Profile Racing in 1968 – originally as a race car chassis shop. But by 1978, Jim’s kids had began racing BMX and his venture into the bicycle industry was born. Having a background in auto racing, and being familiar with chromoly fabrication and lightweight aluminum components, it was inevitable that Jim the “BMX Dad” could improve on the current BMX products on the market. In 1980, Jim designed Profile’s first 3-piece chromoly tubular crank set with a 48 spline spindle  – which is now the industry standard. Coming from the race-car world, Alley knew that he needed a Factory Team consisting of some of the finest nationally ranked riders in the country, to ride, test and represent his products. He would go on to sponsor such superstars as Eric Rupe, Shelby James and Jud Ciancio, to name just a few.

Amazingly, Profile – under Jim’s guidance, has continued to manufacture all of their product line in-house in the U.S.A. – 100% American made in St. Petersburg, Florida, still to this day. In the early 90’s, Profile was responsible for bringing cassette hubs to the forefront of the BMX market; again, an industry standard.
Jim is still heavily involved in R&D and design of Profile products with the Elite line being their highest end product. ..and he still welds every pair of Elite cranks.

FREESTYLER: DENNIS MCCOY

Few riders can claim to have had such an influence on every discipline and aspect of the modern freestyle scene, as Dennis “DMC” McCoy. Having honed his skills riding with his BMX Brigade on the streets of Kansas City in the early 80’s, he joined Haro Bikes as their first non-Californian recruit in 1984. After winning 4 consecutive AFA Masters events as an amateur in 1985, McCoy turned pro in March of 1986. He won the Overall at his debut pro event and finished the year ranked #1 in the Pro Overall and Pro Flatland categories.

Beginning with his rookie pro season in 1986, until the Overall category was eliminated at the end of the 1995 BS Series season, DMC was the top ranked overall rider for an entire decade (pun intended). McCoy is the only rider to hold pro championship titles in every Freestyle BMX discipline. Along with several BS belts, his varied championship titles include the 1990 2-Hip Meet the Street, 1992 ABA King of Dirt and 1995 King of Concrete, and 10 X Games medals (six in the U.S. and four International). Recognition wise, McCoy has won NORA Cups and BMX Plus! Freestyler of the Year awards.

Of Dennis’ many accomplishments, perhaps the most incredible one of all is his undisputed longevity. This year marks his 31st consecutive year competing professionally in major BMX events – giving DMC the longest competitive career in freestyle history.

FREESTYLER: DAVE MIRRA

In February of this year, the sport of BMX lost a true legend. It is safe to say that no BMXer has ever reached the recognition, fame and notoriety that Dave Mirra has. Up until 2013, the Miracle Boy held the record for most X Games medals – having medaled in every X Games from the first one in 1995, up to 2009. To say that Mirra took freestyle riding to a skyscraper-height level would merely be an understatement. Totaling an incredible 24 X Games medals, he is tied with Tony Hawk in reaching the first 14 medals the fastest. From winning an ESPY Award for Best Male Action Sports athlete to being named one of People Magazine’s 50 Hottest Bachelors, to hosting M-TV’s Real World / Road Rules Challenge and being featured in the popular video game Dave Mirra Freestyle, he truly became a household name – and put our great sport in a limelight never before achieved.

When Mirra moved to Greenville, North Carolina – building the ultimate riding compound, and bringing many of the sport’s top athletes with him, the city became known as “Pro Town.” In 2007, he chose to break out on his own and start his own bike brand – MirraCo, and following his BMX retirement went on to race Rally cars for Subaru.

Although his is a life that was ended way too short, there is no doubt that Dave’saccomplishments and contributions to BMX, and his legacy, will live on in infamy.

WOMAN: MICHELLE CAIRNS

The last time an American woman won the UCI World Championships in BMX racing was in 1997 – nearly twenty years ago!  …and that American winner of the rainbow-striped World Champion jersey was Florida’s Michelle Cairns.

For Michelle Cairns, it capped off what would be one of the most incredible BMX resume’s held by a female BMX racer. One that would include multiple No.1 plates and titles – such as eight consecutive NBL National Amateur No.1 plates and two amateur World Championships. In fact, Cairns is the only woman to win all three major titles in BMX – in NBL, UCI and ABA.

She has been NBL No.1 Pro Woman ( 3-times – 1993, 1997 and 1998), a UCI Elite Women’s World Championship (1997), and ABA’s No.1 Woman Pro title in 1999.

Since that victorious day in 1997, in the bitter cold of Saskatoon, Canada – America’s fastest women have come close to re-claiming that long-forgotten Worlds title, but have yet to accomplish what Michelle Cairns was capable of. She set the bar, and she set it very high.

Great Reasons To Look Into Skydiving Lessons

September 18, 2013

By: marko

You may possibly question what sort of lessons you will perhaps need concerning skydiving. Properly, you have to recognize that if you engage in this task, you will truly be sleeping your living about the line. Getting sky-diving classes may supply you with all the knowledge expected to preserve danger to a complete minimum. Here are a few of the things you’ll learn:

1- Proper landing – First thing that people will undoubtedly be taught is proper landing procedures. Even if you’re donning a parachute, the force of the landing can still cause you to maybe twist a leg or even split a bone if you do not perform the proper landing procedure.

A lesson will educate you how to react instinctively and land properly despite whichever position you get in. You’ll be able to make certain that you’ll be able to reach the bottom safely. Remember, it’s not the fall that actually kills people, it’s the power of the impact. With learning the correct getting method, you will find a way to avoid death.

At the beginning of the lesson, you’ll be taught how to land in such a fashion that it will distribute the impact along your human anatomy. This means the drive will not be concentrated on one body part and this means that you’ll find a way to be sure that any injuries are prevented.

2- Parachute release – A lot of skydiving centers today take advantage of a static-line to assure the correct release of a person’s parachute. the parachute is actually opened up by the static line after the pupil advances. Nevertheless, every component has to be considered whilst to ensure the protection of the skydiver. As a result of this, persons taking skydiving lessons are shown about how and when to launch their parachutes to ensure safety. They are taught in regards to the main parachute and how to generate the chute in the event the main chute does not open.

3- Free-falling – Among the largest thrills being sought by people in the activity of skydiving could be the freefall. The free-fall enables people to truly take pleasure in the excitement and slipping via an endless sky. The free-fall offers people the opportunity to scream ‘I will fly’! The freefall, but, could be hazardous or even done right. The free-fall could be unsafe without the understanding on how to control your flight. For despite the dream of anti-gravitation, you’re nevertheless, really positively, slipping.

A particular skydiving lesson is usually granted to those who find themselves enthusiastic about free-falling. They are shown how to shift their bodies such methods as to raise or reduce air opposition. They are taught about how to reduce the pace where they tumble. They are educated about the diverse safety concerns when free-falling.

VANS WARPED TOUR OLD SCHOOL EDITION, “PARTY LIKE IT’s 1999!”

August 5, 2013

Good Music & Great Extreme Sports! Does it get any better?  Found this old post from allextremesports.com 1999, ENJOY!

July 22nd, 1999 The tour stopped at LaSalle Park located in Downtown Buffalo, NY. It was a hot sunny day. Near the end of the show it was amusing to see the “lobsters” checking out their burns. Like the song says “Wear your sunscreen, trust me on this one”. The concert is an all day and into the night event. I listened to bands from 12 noon to 8:30pm before calling it quits. I never got bored, due to the eye candy and extreme sport athletes that were working the crowd.

The event had a smorgasborg of vendors and booths set up. The bargain of the day was a Van’s Shirt for $10 and you get a free hat. I feel the event was run quite well. The rest room situation was adequate unlike woodstock. I also appreciated the separate facilities for us old timers over 21 in the beer tent area. Oh yeah thumbs up to the beer hostesses in the black mini skirts, but whose paying attention.

Lunachicks also warmed up the crowd inviting them over to their autograph session to get to know them better. Blink 182 was smooth, Ice Mutha F@!#ing T was large and in charge. Rapper Eminem was working the crowd despite his bruised ribs from a mishap. We all put our middle finger in the air to help show him the love to help him forget his pain. Black Eyed Peas, Molotov, Pennywise and the list goes on rocked the large crowd. Fenix’s lead singer looked at me and said “Sir, run around and start a mosh pit. I felt old and cool at the same time. I’m not a kid and most of the crowd seemed to be half my age.

The extreme sports were very cool to watch. The motocross guys had the crowd on edge with their death defying moves. I thought the half pipe athletes had some style. Especially the Rollerskater. I believe his name is Brian Wainwright he was dropping in heel to heel simulating a skateboard. The tricks he can pull on them are really amazing. Thumbs up for his originality and style!

The Music, Extreme Sports, Women, Etc. were all awesome. If you get the chance to check out the tour. . . do it! I will be at next years for sure! Hope to see ya there!

RED BULL SOAPBOX RACE REVS UP FOR 2009

April 16, 2009

ATLANTA AND LOS ANGELES APPLICATION DEADLINES SET
SANTA MONICA ΠApril 16, 2009 ΠReady! Set! Go! Red Bull Soapbox Race, featuring some of
the wildest legal street racing around, is set to cruise into Atlanta and Los Angeles for two pit stops in
2009. The two cities, both defined by their traffic gridlock, will transform their usually clogged streets
into wide open raceways as 40-50 teams compete for soapbox supremacy at each stop. This non-
motorized racing event, which is free to the public, invites gear heads and adrenaline junkies alike to
break out their toolboxes and build outrageous human-powered vehicles designed to thrill the masses.
On August 29th Atlanta spectators will flock to 10th Street in Midtown near Piedmont Park to experience the first Red Bull Soapbox Race in the southeast. One month later, on September 26th, speed demons will race down Grand Avenue and brave a razor sharp turn onto 5th Street on the course in downtown Los Angeles.
Atlanta will become Red Bull Soapbox Race lucky number seven for the US, with the first stateside race in St. Louis in 2006. The global event dates back to 2000 when it first took place in Belgium, and has since visited almost 30 countries. Following the Atlanta debut, Red Bull Soapbox Race will take a victory lap in Los Angeles for the final US race of the season.

CALLING ALL ROAD WARRIORS
Ever wanted to speed past a crowd of thousands as they cheer you on to victory? Well, Red Bull
Soapbox Race is calling! Teams can enter their engineering marvels and crazy concepts with a formal
application found at http://www.redbullsoapboxrace.com. Atlanta entries are due by June 17th and those looking to race in Los Angeles have until July 17th to submit their plans. Teams will need more than just courage to claim victory on these city streets as they will be judged on
three criteria: speed, creativity and showmanship. So, make it fast– and fun! Previous events have
proven that the most outlandish crafts are typically the big winners, so put on your creativity caps and
let loose. Past entries include everything from a Philly Cheese Steak to a Giant Troll.

NO HEMI OR HORSE POWER PERMITTED
Each soapbox must be powered by gravity and imagination, which means no stored power or external
energy sources allowed. And size does matter! All vehicles must be less than six feet wide and 20 feet
in length, no more than seven feet high and cannot weigh more than 176 lbs (not including the driver).
Drivers must be at least 18 years old, but engineers and grease monkeys of all ages are welcome to be
part of the five person team.

Skateboard Inducted into National Toy Hall of Fame

November 8, 2008

ROCHESTER, New York—The latest toys to be inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame require noinstruction manual. Welcome the Baby Doll, the Skateboard, and—the Stick! , Thomasthe Tank Engine™, Wiffle Ball, and Yahtzee.

The Baby Doll and Skateboard were chosen from among 12 toy finalists that included Clue, Dollhouse, Flexible Flyer  Sled, The Game of Life, Hot Wheels, Magic 8 Ball, Rubik’s Cube.

On the flip side, the Skateboard —encouraging speed, sharp turns, spins, thrills, and risks—brings out the more daring side of a child’s personality and has been attracting kids to the sport since the early 1950s. The first skateboarders cruised the beach walks of Southern California trying to imitate the moves of the surfers they watched offshore. Singing duo Jan and Dean’s Top 40 hit “Sidewalk Surfin’” gave the new sport national exposure. Network television aired skateboard competitions, and by the time Life magazine put a skateboarder on a 1965 cover, more than fifty million skateboards hadbeen manufactured. The early contraptions were homemade affairs of roller-skate wheels fixed to two-by-fours but changes in skateboard technology in the 1970s improved traction on asphalt and concrete.Today’s superior technology and improved safety gear provide for a safer, more stable ride.

Skateboarding requires creativity, discipline, stamina, and risk-taking. It is now the sixth most popular participant sport in the United States.

The National Toy Hall of Fame ® at Strong National Museum of Play ® recognizes toys that haveengaged and delighted multiple generations, inspiring them to learn, create, and discover through play.  Criteria for induction include:

Icon-status (the toy is widely recognized, respected, and remembered);

Longevity (the toy is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over multiple generations);

Discovery (the toy fosters learning, creativity, or discovery through play); and Innovation (the toyprofoundly changed play or toy design).
